Nantucket in the summer is a dream. The winter, not so much. So after nine straight frigid winters on the “frozen rock", I spent two months last winter thawing out in Nosara, Costa Rica.
It was a revelation. I spent those months photographing the Nosara coastline, every sunrise and sunset. I wanted to capture the vivid colors, the power of the surf contrasted against the tranquility of swaying palm trees. The resulting body of work I call OceanMinded.
I returned to Nantucket for the busy season, but I never really left Nosara. I edited the images for OceanMinded and decided to create 14 large format, wall-size metal prints.
The metal makes for a unique and durable work of art, able to withstand Costa Rica’s heat and humidity. I put the 14 prints on a ship bound for the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, and reunited with them in early November. I immediately began plans for showing the prints at select venues in Nosara.
Now that I’ve discovered it is possible to have the best of both worlds, I’m looking forward to bringing my photography business to Nosara every winter. I’ll be showing my OceanMinded prints at Olo Alaia Surf Shop on November 23rd and the Harmony Hotel in December. I hope to see you there!
