I've photographed many politicians in my career but something about having Joe Kennedy III in front of my lens was different. He was incredibly warm, engaging and generous with his time. Moreover, I felt I was in the presence of greatness. Or perhaps future greatness.
At times his resemblance to JFK is uncanny, even a bit eerie. Especially when Nantucket Magazine's editor Rob Cocuzzo handed him a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses to wear. Aboard the Valiant, a classic ninety-seven-foot charter yacht, we sailed around the harbor for an hour with the Boston skyline in the distance. Joe shared stories of the Kennedy family and his life on the campaign trail, admitting at one point he was camera shy. Better get used to that, I thought to myself. Besides, he has nothing to be shy about. I could have shot these pictures on my iPhone and they would have come out (almost) as well.
